Answer

Mr. Earl,  would you reccomend a blade micromter over a caliper for measuring the reduction of area of pulled Tensile Bars.

We measure the neck regions of the  following machined diameter steel bars .16" , .25" , .35", .50".

For % elongation we just use a regular calipher. We tend to get some play in the gauge marks on the bar.

Would a centerline caliper be best for this type of measurement.

We would like to improve the accuracy of our results.

Your advice would be much appreciated.

The blade micrometer should be ok .  You  may use  a blade  caliper  also. We sue a blade  caliper for total elongation.    Not sure what a centerline caliper  is.
